The most important sources of law in Iraq are:
The Constitution: The supreme source, regulating the principles of the state, rights, and powers.
Laws and legislation: Issued by the Council of Representatives and considered the primary legislative source.
Judicial interpretation: Not an official source, but influential in interpreting texts.
Islamic Sharia: An official source in personal status matters, recognized by the Constitution as a primary legislative source (Article 2).
Custom: Applied to in the absence of a legal text.
General principles of law: Used to fill legislative gaps.
